Easdale
and its surrounding area is steeped in history. The area was the centre
of Scotland’s Slate Industry and any visit would not be complete
without a visit to The Scottish Slate Islands Heritage Centre. It gives
a wonderful insight into Easdale as it was. There are models and displays
to interest young and old. The Slate Islands Heritage Trust have recently
‘rescued’ and renovated the old pier crane that now stands
proudly in Easdale Square. The Heritage Centre has close links with Easdale
Folk Museum on Easdale Island, a 3 min ferry journey away. The Folk Museum,
under the guidance of Jean Baker was, in past years, voted Scotland’s
Best Small Museum and won other awards in the process.
